one must also say yes to life
else living becomes a
timid pursuit of breath
shallow triumph of mediocrity
joyless bite of the apple
listless step on someone else's journey
I am a cadaver, walking
among those who haven't
seen the darkness
who revel in the blinding light
darkening the darkness
for those who said
no to death
but forgot to say yes to life
I like "joyless bite of the apple". That's a great way to put it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes no is not enough and this poem shows that we need more. For all those who say no, I say show me a solution. Bite that apple and enjoy the crispness.

Wow! Some really great lines and a powerful message about not jumping in wholeheartedly. Wherever you go, go with all your heart!
ReplyDeleteI know this will not make you think much of me, but there was nothing new in the idea and your phrases were cliches. Williams saiid"Make it new." That is all we can do. Everything has been said many times over. It's in the saying it that's important.>KB
ReplyDeleteyou take a great truth in your opening and spin it well from there...there are those two parts...and life to be embraced...
ReplyDeleteOhhh...I liked this. Yes, sometimes people feel that they are trapped in that place of not yet dead, but not living. I really enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteAnnotating60, I think highly of you for giving me your honest feedback. Praise is easy. Criticism is not.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else, thanks.
Your last two stanzas are very powerful and revealing. I disagree with your critic. Everything old is new again in another's eyes. I happen to know several of the living dead. And they could use some plain enlightenment like you offer here. Thank you.
